Hot Pink Cactus Bloom

Some years ago Peter and I spent two months in San Miguel de Allende where we both attended art classes with Juan Zaragoza, a master painter and teacher. While I did not paint cactus with him, I admired his huge mural sized cactus flowers and the small ones. I tucked away the desire to paint cactus until my neighbour's cacti bloomed in succession this year. What a thrill it is to wake up each morning and see fresh, new blossoms, with their vibrant hues and delicate, almost translucent petals. This is the first of three I've painted for your pleasure. Surprisingly these grow in our climate (cold in winter; hot, hot in summer), about 20 minutes drive north from Canada's only desert.

Acrylic on 8 X 10 X 1"cradle board prepared to the highest standards.
